The Inception

The West Bengal University of Health Sciences [WBUHS] has been set up by an Act of Legislative Assembly 2003. The institute aims at better management of health and medical education related courses, which were so far taught independently by University of Calcutta, University of Burdwan and University of North Bengal.

Securing Admission to the WBUHS ? PG Medical

Application Process

The applicant is required to visit the WBUHS website for applying online. A print of the admission form that is on the website is to be taken, duly filled in and to be submitted. An examination fee of Rs. 3000/- is to be paid via the online / offline mode.

The flow of the process is as below

The authority would issue admit cards. Those whose application was accepted will be able to download the admit card from the official website with login credentials. Producing the Admit Card at the exam venue is mandatory; failing to do so may result in debarring the candidate from appearing for the entrance exam.

A few points to be noted are

• Cancellation of the admission procedure of the candidate would be considered on the following grounds
  • Submission of incorrect documents
  • False statements
  • Suppression of information / documents asked for on the form
• Selection of the candidate stands cancelled if
  • He / she is found guilty of copying from any material, electronic device during the examination
  • Assisting others in the examination
  • Being assisted by others during the examination

Eligibility criteria

• Candidate must be an Indian National, overseas citizen of India are also eligible to appear for the exam.
• He / She must have passed the higher secondary or equivalent and the MBBS examination from institutions from West Bengal.
• Minimum 60% marks are required in qualifying exam to be eligible for the exam.

Important dates for the PG Medical course is as under

Scheme of Examination

The question paper would be for written test. It would be set in English. It would contain 200 Multiple Choice Questions and the duration would be 160 minutes. The applicant would be allowed to appear for the test provided he/she has submitted online the application form within the last date and fulfils all the eligibility criteria.

For each correct answer 1 mark would awarded. No deductions for wrong answers. No marks will be given for multiple answers and similarly no deductions made for questions unanswered.

Results would be put up on the West Bengal University of Health Sciences website.

To qualify for the merit list

• General category will have to secure minimum 50% marks.
• OBC-A and OBC-B ? 45% marks
• SC/ST ? 40% marks
