About the Institution

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) established in the year 1997 as Central Referral Hospital. The first batch of students was enrolled in 2001. SMIMS is spread in a sprawling area of 25 acres of mountainous land. The Institute provides a very congenial environment for academic activities with lecture theatres well equipped with all modern audio visual amenities.

With a team of 288 faculties, SMIMS conducts the following Medical and Health Sciences courses ?

• Sc [Medical] in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and integrated Medical Bio Technology
• DNB in Paediatrics, OBG, Medicine and Surgery
• MS in ENT OBG
• MD in Medicine, Paediatrics, Community Medicine, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Psychiatry, Microbiology & Physiology

The Institute has facilities that are conducive not only to learning but a holistic development of students.

1. A very congenial environment for academic activities with lecture theatres well equipped with all modern audio visual amenities.
2. Library with seating capacity of 150 students ? well equipped with resourceful material and computer with internet facilities to allow for research.
3. The institution has a 750 seated auditorium with all modern facilities. A 42 seated conference hall and a 45 seated seminar hall are also available to hold state and national level events.
4. The Institute provides hostel facility for 600 students.
5. 300 student seating dining hall.
6. For the time-out needs of the students, the hostel also has a Gymnasium, Badminton Court, TV Rooms and internet facilities for the students.

Admissions to the Institute are based on the clearance of the UGET1entranceexamination. The Institute conducts Under Graduate Entrance Tests -1 for MBBS. Candidates who secure a rank in Merit list of Sikkim Manipal University Under-Graduate Entrance Test-1 commonly known as SMU UGET will be applicable to admission in SMIMS.

Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English are the important subjects of SMUMBBSentranceexam. Candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Bio-technology. Aspirants who are applying for SMU MBBS 2022 should be older than 17 years as on December 31, 2022.
