University Overview
Kathmandu University (KU) is an independent non-government, public institution. It is the third oldest university in Nepal, establishing of the University dates back to 1985. It is located in Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchok District, about 30 km east of Kathmandu. KU was established in 1991 with the motto "Quality Education for Leadership". This university operates through its six schools and from premises in Dhulikhel, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
Foundation
When established in November 1991 as a non-profit, autonomous, public university by an Act Kathmandu University became first privately managed public institution of higher learning in Nepal. The precursor of the university was the Kathmandu Valley Campus founded in 1985. The campus started as a private campus affiliated to Tribhuvan University and offered courses in science at intermediate level (I.Sc)

At present, the University offers various undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs in Science, Engineering, Medicine, Management, Education, Arts, Pharmacy, Environment, Music, Human & Natural Resources, Information Technology and Biotechnology. The University has adopted 1 to 10 teacher?student ratio. The admission of students is based on merit, based on their score in the previous examination and written and oral entrance tests.
Admissions
Admission to Kathmandu University is granted on the basis of clearance of Entrance tests.
For admission to Science or Engineering courses, candidates are required to undergo entrance tests for subjects ? Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths. Likewise for other courses, the subjects vary.

Students taking the Kathmandu University Medical Entrance tests would be following the exam pattern as ?
- Physics - 30 marks
- Chemistry - 30 marks
- Biology - 40 marks
Eligibility - Completed 10+2 years of education or equivalent with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and not less than 50% of marks in each subjects of Physics, Chemistry and, Biology (PCB) / OR completed Bachelor of Science Degree, recognized by the University, with one of the following subjects viz. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and having secured minimum 50% marks / OR Completed requisite course equivalent to I. Sc. (Biological Group) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, as main subjects after Certificate Level in Health Sciences from Dhulikhel Medical Institute, Kathmandu University with minimum 50% marks in the subjects.
